What you Need to know : BOMA INTERNATIONAL 2017 Office Standard

BOMA International has just released their latest floor area measurement standard for Office Buildings, BOMA 2017 for Office Buildings: Standard Methods of Measurement (ANSI/BOMA Z65.1-2017). 

BOMA's latest update to its Office Standard has been totally redesigned to a "Step by Step" format to make it easier to use and follow. Many concepts and methods have been rewritten to be easier to understand. Many helpful hints have been provided along with additional instructional illustrations and an expanded Glossary of Terms.

OVERVIEW OF WHATS NEW FOR 2017

STANDARDS COMPATIBILITY

    * International Property Measurement Standard (IPMS) Compatibility with IPMS 2 & IPMS 3 Office Area Calculations; www.ipmsc.org

BUILDING PERIMETER / BOUNDARY AREA

    * Interior Gross Area (IGA - BOMA 2010) renamed to Boundary Area
    * Removal of Public Pedestrian Thoroughfare Condition (reduces rentable area on floors where this condition exists)
    * Removal of Enclosure Limit (reduces rentable area on floors where this condition exists)
    * Exterior Door Setbacks new illustrations and explanations
    * Unenclosed Openings illustrations and explanations
    * Height Limits for Dominant Portion

WALL PRIORITY (How to measure the enclosing wall of a room/area)

    * Width Limits for Unenclosed Occupant and Base Building Circulation
    * New Easy to Understand Wall Priority Illustrations

AREA CLASSIFICATION

    * Inclusion of Balconies & Finished Rooftop Terraces as Rentable Area
    * Inclusion of Major Vertical Penetrations as Rentable Area at their lowest level
    * Removal of Floor Amenity Area (reclassified as Inter-Building Amenity Area has no effect on Rentable Area)
    * Occupant Area divided into 2 new Area Classifications
