Wyoming Whiskey, a personal connection…..

Many of you know that I grew up in a small town in Wyoming and I am very proud of my western heritage. My grandfather is from Lyman, Wyoming; Population 2,067, and my grandmother is from an even smaller farming community in Northern Wyoming; Byron, Population 616. My great-great grandfather, John Abraham, started farming in the early 1900’s and my grandmothers family continued that tradition for nearly 100 years and still owns a small farm east of Byron.

Brent & Sherry Rageth of Rageth farms purchased the 820 acre John Abraham Farm in 2008 and with a commitment to traditional bourbon distilling methods and the sourcing non-GMO grains locally, Wyoming Whiskey is true to its name. Corn, winter wheat, winter rye, and malted barley are all grown by Rageth Farms at our once ancestral family farm in Byron, making this whiskey a little extra special to me.

STEAMBOAT - Special Edition

Label
The label of this bottle pays tribute to Chugwater, the birthplace of Steamboat, with an image of the Chugwater Cliffs. Named after the Cowboy State’s iconic symbol which is represented on the Wyoming license plate. Steamboat was the name of an “unrideable” horse ridden by Clayton Danks in the Cheyenne Frontier Days rodeo in 1909. While some controversy surrounds the identity of the rider, the duo is believed to be the bronc and rider that inspired Wyoming’s revered logo, “and, unlike the horse, this whiskey doesn’t buck.”

Tasting Notes
Wyoming only release, blended to be sweet and smooth. Red berries, sweeter vanilla, light caramel more orange blossom than orange peel. Delicate on the tongue and great for evening sipping.

Stargazer - 2 Barrel Distillery Only Special Edition

The label of this bottle pays tribute to The Stargazer. A 2 barrel blend chosen specifically for their darker profile to honor the 50th anniversary of the moon landing.

Half a century ago, driven by the human need to know and explore, three Americans rode into space on a rocket fueled by dreams, hard work, and an unshakable confidence in themselves, their team, and their future. The hopes of many across the globe were realized when two of them stood together on the moon.

Fifty years later we still gaze up at the moon over the dark skies of Kirby, remembering those courageous explores, and imaging what the future holds. this distillery only edition celebrates the vision of the nation that put them there and the courage of the men who took the journey.

Still definitely bourbon this 2 barrel blend carries notes of chocolate, coffee and other darker fruits, smooth and rich on the palette and finish.

STATESMAN - Special Edition

Label
Statesman is a blend of only ten barrels, and was created to honor Cliff Hansen—great-grandfather to one of our founders Brad Mead. Cliff was a senator and governor of Wyoming, and truly loved his bourbon. Statesman is available for sale only in Wyoming and at our Kirby distillery.

Tasting Notes
Statesman’s profile includes the sweeter aspect of orange and dates, the nutty richness of browned butter. It’s smooth at the start, with a little bite at the end, because we wanted the whiskey to reflect the man. It was bottled at 97 proof, as that was the span of Cliff’s life.
